André Matov guitarist | composer

Balkan jazz, soulpop, avantgarde –Berlin based André Matov style is infused with influences from a broad musical palette whether as guitarist, composer or producer; a far cry from his childhood initiation to music.

Age 6, André received a violin from his father, an orchestra musician. Age 13 he picked up the electric guitar to copy the riffs of Prince, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimi Hendrix and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The music of jack-of-all-trades Frank Zappa and John Zorn stimulated Matov's interest in jazz, which led to musical studies at the Folkwang-University in Essen.

It was here that he came into contact with the future members his quintet MatovsGarage. Shortly after graduation in 2006, André Matov and his band won the competition jazzwerkruhrpreis and recorded their debut CD.

Since then Andre has been busy composing and producing both his own music and also that of other artists, and for film and television. As a guitarist he plays in his own projects, but also as a sideman for other musicians and theatre productions.
